Sustainability at Wicklow Way Wines

Sustainability is truly at the heart of our work. Pamela, our MD, has dedicated many years to educating and involving herself in grand activities in an attempt to fight the climate crisis, having formally built windfarms in her role as a senior executive with Airtricity. Here’s a small overview of the positive actions we take, to play our part 😊

In 2021, we transitioned from use of plastic inflatables to 100% recyclable and compostable, card waste inserts, for wine shipped via postal services.

Origin Green

We are a proud Verified Member of Bord Bia's Origin Green, Ireland’s world-pioneering programme of commitment to sustainable food and drink production. We proudly achieved Gold status in 2023, which is awarded to companies who have demonstrated an overall exceptional performance within a given year. See our up-to-date cert here.

Environment

With our lifelong and personal commitment to the environment, sustainability is close to our hearts where we carry this concept throughout our production process. Our fruit is either foraged or selected exclusively from Bord Bia-approved growers, and the fruit pulp that remains after the berries are pressed, is broken down into microbially-rich compost, used for food production. At the winery we make every effort to be as energy-efficient as possible and have committed to source our electricity from the electricity supplier with the lowest greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while minimizing and recycling all cardboard and plastics.

Pamela chairs the steering committee for the delivery of the Wicklow Food and Beverage Strategy. Wicklow Naturally celebrates local sustainable producers who ensure that best practice, authenticity, and the highest quality of food and drink products are provided.
